Gossip and controversy swirling around Lindsay Lohan is costing the actress a career comeback - because studio bosses are wary about working with her. The Mean Girls star reveals one major movie project has already been put on hold because producers believe what they read about Lohan's supposed eating disorder, drug abuse and post-romance meltdown.

Appearing on Thursday's Ellen show, the actress said, "I had a really good opportunity with an amazing actor and it's been put on hold because of this coverage that's been coming out. I didn't get into this to be a celebrity on the cover of tabloids and I've been a target and I'm not that interesting but it's distracting; it distracts people, studio heads, everyone - they get nervous. But I'm ready to work and I'm responsible."

Reports about Lohan's mental health have been rampant since before she split from girlfriend Samantha Ronson last month, but Lohan insists she's OK - and friends like fellow actress Natalie Portman are helping her focus on her career.

Lohan added, "I have some really great friends. Natalie Portman's been there for me through everything."
