Crime fighting amphibians the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will celebrate their 25th birthday on Thursday with a series of events in New York City.

Organizers of the city's Tribeca Film Festival are throwing a special bash for the turtles, who first appeared in a comic book back in 1984.

The Empire State Building will shine with a green light for the day, and the 1990 Ninja Turtles movie will be screened at downtown Manhattan's World Financial Center - which will be turned into the sewer set of the film.

And festival organizers are inviting fans to attend the party dressed like Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Rafael and Donatello - in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Ninja Turtles. The record was set last April with 786 people - organized by students of Rutgers University in New Jersey.
