Serena Ryder To Tour Alongside Paolo Nutini And Eric Hutchinson
Serena's full-length Atlantic Records debut, is it o.k. – which includes the current hit single, "Little Bit Of Red" – is currently available for purchase at www.serenaryder.com and arrives in stores this summer. The album has proven a true blockbuster in Ryder's native Canada. In addition to bountiful critical acclaim, the album – recorded with Grammy Award-winning producer John Alagia (Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer) – has received gold certification from the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association), as well as the 2009 Juno Award for "Adult Alternative Album of the Year."
"Little Bit Of Red" – the first single from "is it o.k." – is shaping up as Ryder's popular breakthrough in the U.S. The track is lighting up switchboards at Triple A outlets nationwide, where it is currently bulleting its way up the top 20. Ryder – the 2008 Juno Award winner for "Best New Artist" – has already earned a significant U.S. following via two recent Atlantic Records releases, "Sweeping The Ashes" and "Told You In A Whispered Song." The EPs serve as an ideal introduction to Ryder's powerful range – which veers from tough to tender, often in a single verse – and distinctive, classically romantic songwriting.
Ryder's inventive, jazz/blues-inflected vocals and intimate lyricism have already earned reams of critical acclaim. "(She) attacks a lyric like a young Melissa Etheridge," declared O, The Oprah Magazine, while Performing Songwriter praised Serena as "a voice…that grabs you by the lapels and refuses to let your attention wander." The New York Post declared, "(Ryder) hits hard with her expressive, quivering vocals, sound lyrics – sometimes tough, sometimes vulnerable – and acoustic guitar." "Ryder brings a range and vocal maturity of someone twice her age," noted American Songwriter. "(Ryder) has an impressive fearlessness," decreed the Boston Globe. "She could become a major force."
Ryder has proven herself to be a hard-traveling troubadour, with countless tours in her native Canada, as well as France and Australia. Here in the U.S., she has shared stages with such artists as Paolo Nutini, Marc Broussard, Stephen Kellogg, and Xavier Rudd, not to mention performances at such festivals as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Denver's Mile High Music Festival.
