'America’s Next Top Model' Recap: Acting Like a Model

America's Next Top ModelThis week on America's Next Top Model the girls had the opportunity to act with Clay Aiken and shoot their first Cover Girl commercial.

Paulina Porizkova started off teaching the girls how to better express themselves while acting on stage. She gave each girl a different phrase and had them say it in a different way, like pitifully, threatening or arrogantly. Then, the girls took Paulina's teach and used it to act out a skit with Clay Aiken.

Celia brought a comedic flare to the performance that Clay enjoyed. Paulina and Clay thought that Natalie had a bad attitude and Tahlia was lazy and insecure. The challenge winner was London, who claimed she came from a family of natural actors. Clay called her rendition of the skit expressive and truthful. She won $5,000 worth of jeans that she ultimately gave to the other girls in the house because they didn't fit her. Some of the other girls acknowledged that London had been gaining some weight throughout the competition.

The girls then were assigned groups for their commercials. They were given scripts, but they had a teleprompter for back-up just in case. The first group consisted of Teyona, Aminat, Celia and Allison. Teyona forgot to look at the camera, Aminat left her personality behind when the cameras were on and Allison delivered her lines flatly. Celia did the best in group one, even though Tyra claimed that she looked like the other girls' "auntie."

Natalie, Fo, London and Tahlia made up the second group. Mr. Jay thought that Natalie delivered an average performance, Fo stumbled over her words, London acted like a used car salesman and Tahlia didn't bring any spirit to set.

When it came to panel, the judges were overly harsh on wardrobes this week. They didn't like that Allison wore a repeat outfit and told London that her shorts weren't becoming (another comment on her weight gain, perhaps).

As far as the commercials went, the panel agreed that Celia did the best of the bunch, but that it wasn't necessarily a compliment. The judges thought all the girls had very poor showings for their commercial. Natalie was next called, even though Nigel Barker said she looked more like a Bond girl than a Cover Girl. They thought she needed to work on her flirtation and ability to relate to the other girls, which was shown earlier in the episode when she couldn't even wash her own dinner dishes. Obviously, the others in the house take issue with Natalie's upbringing.

Even though Teyona was criticized for squinting her eyes too much and being Nigel's definition of the difference between photogenic and telegenic, she was still called third.

Fo was called fourth. She would have had a better commercial had she not stumbled over her words at the beginning of the take. The judges commented that she stole the show in the background of the other group members' performances.

London fell near the bottom of the pack as well as Aminat. The judges commented on Aminat's lack of pronunciation and London's harsh attitude towards the product. But ultimately, Allison and Tahlia ended up in the bottom two. The same critique was given to Allison - they need to see more versatility in her face. But, I agree with Allison that there's not much she can do with her eyes short of warping her face or getting some sort of surgery. Unfortunately, Tahlia's time had come to an end on America's Next Top Model and she was sent home. She said in her departure that she hoped she at least inspired one person being a burn survivor to make it this far in the competition.
