Rockers Green Day will debut a musical based on their hit album American Idiot in September.

The band has long been rumored to be turning their 2004 rock opera disc into a stage production, and the stars have now confirmed the show will premiere at the Berkley Repertory Theatre in California this autumn.

However, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong admits the play, directed by Michael Mayer, is a little confusing. He tells the New York Times, "It doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what I love about it. When people see it, it's going to be my wildest dream."
