'One Tree Hill' Recap: Game Over

One Tree HillWhen one thinks of the word "over," what comes to mind? Maybe a parent who's celebrating an "Over the Hill" birthday, a friend who finally was able to overcome an obstacle, a leadership position that reigns over someone or maybe that delicious apple turnover you had this morning.

On Monday night's episode of One Tree Hill, the community of Tree Hill found themselves closing chapters to parts of their lives that left dramatic imprints in their hearts and that held such importance and meaning in their world. Once it all came crashing down, the game was over for many.

After months of planning, interviews and arguments that make up the rigmarole filming process, Lucas's movie was cut from production. After Julian's father was let go from the production company, the movie's status went from pending to nonexistent. While Julian held out hope, Reece convinced both otherwise, saying "the beauty was in the attempt." From here, everyone needed to pick themselves up and move on to the next best thing. Bruised from losing 300k in a matter of a few minutes, a defeated Lucas accepted the consequences. But as Reece celebrated in his glory of collecting his payment, he surprised Lucas and Julian and told them they both would still receive a production bonus. It is a bit disappointing to not see the movie plans follow through to schedule. If it's true that OTH signed on for a seventh season, it would be in the show's best interest to continue with the movie. The film could present many dramatic plots to help plump up the show's various storylines.

Dan Scott's situation has always been a bit more precarious than most. After his beeper signaled last week of a heart found for him, it appeared to Dan that his life was turning a corner. The whole "One Tree Hill" fan base probably tied up the phone lines with their text messages and phone calls as Dan's hopes crashed and burned. Minutes before surgery, a dog in the waiting room tripped the nurse carrying the donor heart, which sent the cooler flying to the floor. The wild dog bounded after it, only to gobble the heart up and scamper off. After the jail rat realized karma had sucked his life dry, the former Tree Hill mayor plunged into the ocean begging God to end his life. Moments later, a dejected Dan sat on the beach with life still at his fingertips.

After being suspended for printing Sam's raw, personal and inspirational essay in the school newspaper, Haley James Scott became torn between following her personal values or adhering to the principal's demands. With her job at stake, Nathan Scott encouraged her to stand up for what was right, assuring her she had his support no what she decided. When the moment arrived, Haley stood her ground. And is anyone surprised? Walking out of the classroom, Haley made a strong statement. According to the English teacher, "Stand up for what you believe in. The truth matters, so tell it." The principal allowed her to leave her job, but the previews for next week's episode hint to otherwise? Thoughts on Haley's predicament?

With the movie plans belly up, Julian realized his need to move back to California to purse other avenues. Unfortunately, this required saying adios to Brooke. As he kissed her goodbye, it was obvious Brooke fought the urge to encourage to him stay. In the end, she let him walk right out the door. In all honesty, her stubbornness is downright tedious and quite annoying. If she doesn't start opening up soon, she will have nobody. Based on past seasons alone, Brooke will not be able to handle being alone. Too many of her close friends are settling down, achieving their dreams or moving on with life and if Brooke doesn't keep cognizant of the situation she's putting herself in, she may be left standing in the dust.

After several months of dating, Nanny Deb finally took a step back and analyzed her relationship with Skills. Realizing he needed to be with someone younger who can give him what she cannot (a family), she firmly ended things with him. While Skills may be hurt and dejected, in the long run he may realize Nanny Deb did what was best for him.

Some attempted at making things slightly positive despite the negative hole they were thrown in. Haley put her leadership skills elsewhere as she took on a full time producer gig with Peyton's Red Bedroom Records. Dan apologized to his two sons and placed emphasis on their loyalty as good men and good brothers, encouraging them not to let the world change that aspect. (Does Dan intend to commit suicide? Will we be seeing less of him from now on?) Brooke apologized to Sam for her lack of faith and labeling her as "unfixable." To prove how sorry she was, Brooke allowed Sam's friend Jack to stay over night. (Remember, his brother is a killer and a beater!)

Little Jamie still saw the positive despite the negative times - just like his mother does. Within his adorably created SIMS world, everyone has a place, a dream and a heart. He may have lost some respect for his Grandpa Dan, but in the end he still loves him like any other family member. When it comes to this little guy, nothing is ever over. It's just a new beginning.
