Portia De RossiActress Portia De Rossi has "apologized" for marrying comedienne Ellen Degeneres in a video spoof taking aim at supporters of the same-sex marriage ban in California.

The openly gay couple wed in August, taking advantage of the May Supreme Court ruling which legalized same-sex unions in the state. Their rights were revoked just months later after the passing of the Proposition 8 bill, which reversed the previous ruling permitting the unions.

DeGeneres used her talk show Ellen as a forum to publicize her devastation over the issue, and now de Rossi is voicing her own discontent in a public service announcement (P.S.A.) "Paid for by married gay people who are sorry and The National Coalition of Bonobo Chimps."

She says, "I was just very sad and very surprised at the time. Ellen has her own talk show, and she was able to tell people how she felt about it and I've never been able to talk about it from my perspective, so I shot a P.S.A. that talks about how I feel about it."

Issuing her "apology", de Rossi adds: "When I got married, all I was thinking about was my own joy at committing to love my partner for the rest of my life. I didn't think about all the people I was hurting by getting married. That was selfish. So I want to apologize to all those people whose lives have been affected by me getting married."
