Sid Vicious Tops Controversial Rocker Poll

Sex PistolsHell raising Sex Pistols star Sid Vicious has been voted the most controversial rocker of all time.

Vicious - real name John Ritchie - died of a heroin overdose in 1979, months after he was accused of murdering his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.

He topped a poll of 2,000 music fans to find the ultimate rock wildman, scooping 25 per cent of the vote.

Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, who famously bit the head off a bat during a concert, was voted second, narrowly beating out Rolling Stones star Keith Richards into third place.

Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse came fourth for her former hard partying ways, and Michael Jackson - whose career has been rocked by a string of child abuse scandals - rounded out the top five of the Orange.co.uk survey.

The top ten is as follows:
