Slumdog Millionaire actors Dev Patel and Freida Pinto have fueled speculation they are dating - by shopping for jewelery together on Valentine's Day.

The pair play childhood sweethearts in the Oscar-nominated movie, and their off screen friendship has prompted rumors of a real-life romance.

Patel dismissed the speculation last month, insisting he and Pinto are just good friends.

He said, "We're soulmates because we're both in this surreal situation. She is very beautiful (but) there's no romance."

But Pinto, 24, is rumored to have ended her relationship with Rohan Antao earlier this month - opening the way for her to date 18-year-old Patel.

Their co-star Anil Kapoor, who plays a gameshow host in the film, said in a recent interview he is convinced they are more than just friends.

And Patel and Pinto further fueled the rumors by spending the most romantic day of the year together last weekend, perusing a jewelery store on London's Oxford Street, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.

An onlooker tells the publication, "Dev and Frieda seemed completely smitten with each other. They spent 15 minutes in the jeweler's and were quite happy to sign autographs and talk to fans.

"They paid particular attention to one of the cabinets which was full of the more expensive rings stocked by the store chain. They didn't buy anything in the end, but they certainly spent plenty of time studying the range."
