Clay AikenFormer American Idol star Clay Aiken has been ditched by his record label RCA after his last album flopped.

Aiken sold just 159,000 copies of 2008 release On My Way Here, a dramatic drop from his 2003 debut, which managed sales of more than 2.5 million.

The 30-year-old's representative Cindi Berger claims the split was caused by a breakdown in contract talks.

She tells People.com, "We were unable to come to terms in a recent contract negotiation, and decided that it was best to move on."
