Brown was charged by Los Angeles police with making criminal threats on Sunday after an alleged fight with a woman believed to be Rihanna.

The news came as a shock to "Ordinary People" hitmaker Legend - but he insists if the reports are true, Brown will have to face the consequences of his actions.

He says, "I know both of them. I was surprised when I heard because it doesn't strike me as something Chris would do. You never know what's inside people or what can trigger that. It's an awful story. I feel terrible for both of them but if Chris did what they said he did, that's unacceptable. He has to accept the consequences of it."
