Deftones To Rock On Without Comatose Bass Player
The group has announced plans to perform at the Bamboozle Left festival in California in April - it will be their first show since the bass player fell into a coma following a car crash in November.
Former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega, who replaced Cheng in 1999 when he temporarily quit the band, will step in for the show.
A statement from the Deftones reads, "Chi always wanted to keep working and never slow down, which is why we feel confident in returning to the stage at Bamboozle... Chi would want it, and we want to make sure we're keeping his legacy alive."
Meanwhile, Cheng's family has set up a 'Get Well Soon' MySpace.com site for the comatose rock star.
One tribute from Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst reads, "Chi has touched my heart as an artist and as a human being. He has been put on earth to shed light on all darkness. I love Chi... He is a major contribution to mankind. My heart aches for him, his family, his friends, and his fans."
