The star, 42, has three boys with his wife Elizabeth - Sam, five; Dan, nine; and Jake, 12 - and the family is currently celebrating their eldest son's health after having treatment for epilepsy.

And Grunberg made sure to give a public message of thanks to the medics who worked so hard to ensure Jake pulled through the operation.

He tells TV's the The Bonnie Hunt Show, "When he was seven he used to have little stirring spells and we never knew what they were... He's progressively gotten worse and better and he's just had brain surgery this year in Chicago and I have to say, the people at Rush Medical Center, Dr. Smith, Dr. Burn, they literally saved my son's life. He's been treated at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and at Rush, but it's just a special thing. But he's doing great, you'd never know... He's almost seizure free - he's 90 per cent clear so he's doing great."

And the Grunbergs made the trip home to Los Angeles a memorable one - they embarked on a road trip after learning Jake could not fly post-surgery.

He adds, "We didn't know he couldn't fly. So we spent three weeks in Chicago and then right before we're about to get discharged, the doctor says, 'He's great, looking great, where are you staying in Chicago?' And we're like, 'What are you talking about? We're going home!' And he was like, 'The altitude, you can't fly!' So we had to get a van and me, my wife and Jake drove cross country... It was an adventure, it was really good."
