Bruce SpringsteenRock legend Bruce Springsteen could barely contain his delight after winning a Golden Globe award.

The Born To Run hitmaker scored Best Original Song for the title track to acclaimed movie The Wrestler at the glittering ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Springsteen beat Peter Gabriel with Down To Earth from Wall-E, Jamie Cullum's title track from Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino, Miley Cyrus with I Thought I Lost You from Bolt, and Beyonce with Cadillac Records' Once In A Lifetime.

And the rocker was delighted to be even shortlisted in the same category as Hollywood legend Eastwood's acclaimed movie.

He told the crowd: "This is the only time I'm going to be in competition with Clint Eastwood."

Springsteen also thanked the film's star Mickey Rourke and director Darren Aronofsky for inviting him to be part of the movie, adding, "Thanks for thinking of me."

Springsteen's triumph was one of two awards for The Wrestler, with Mickey Rourke also picking up the prize for Best Actor.
