Jennifer Garner is "doing great" following the birth of her second daughter with Hollywood star husband Ben Affleck, according to her close pal and former co-star Victor Garber.

The couple welcomed the baby girl - a sister for three-year-old Violet - in Los Angeles on Tuesday. And Garber, who starred alongside Garner in hit TV show Alias, has already been in touch to offer his congratulations.

He tells NYPost.com's PopWrap blog, "I talked to her and she's doing great. It was a much easier birth, which I guess is true of most second births - they're easier. She sounded fantastic. I'm very excited."

And Garber insists the new arrival could not be in better hands: "I just marvel at how they're being brought up. What a wonderful mother Jennifer is, and what a joy it is to be around that family."

The Hollywood couple has yet to release the name of the newborn.
