Barbara Walters has landed the first TV interview with Patrick Swayze since the actor announced he was battling pancreatic cancer last year.

Walters has conducted an indepth chat with the star, which will air on January 7. The two old friends met up at Swayze's ranch outside Los Angeles, where Walters first interviewed Swayze for a TV special eight years ago.

Walters tells TV Guide magazine, "Everything about him (Swayze) impresses me: his courage, his humour. There's something very valiant about him... He's a fighter."
