Basketball icon-turned-political hopeful Charles Barkley has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The former athlete, who announced in August his plans to run for Alabama state governor, was held by the Gilbert Police Department at a DUI checkpoint in Arizona on Wednesday.

Barkley, 45, had his blood tested on the scene by a mobile DUI task force. He was released shortly afterwards and took a taxi home, according to a report on TMZ.com.
