Actress Elisha Cuthbert's ex-boyfriend Sean Avery has been suspended from North America's premier ice hockey league for six games after making lewd comments about the former 24 star during a pre-game television interview.
National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman dished out the punishment on Friday, stating Avery "has been warned repeatedly about his conduct and comments".
The Dallas Stars tough guy upset league officials on Tuesday night when he referred to Cuthbert as "my sloppy seconds" as he poked fun at ice rival Dion Phaneuf, who is currently dating the actress.
Avery has since apologized for his comment, but that wasn't enough for Bettman.
The commissioner said, "Playing in the National Hockey League is a privilege, requiring a high standard of personal behavior. Mr. Avery forfeits that privilege for six games.
"Mr. Avery has expressed remorse for his recent comments and has sought a professional anger management evaluation. I will require that he follow through with that process as a condition of his returning to the ice, and that he complies with any and all recommendations."
