Episode four of "Top Chef" began with a letter from Richard to the remaining chefs to help boost their spirits. Jamie noted that she was the final member of team rainbow, and already things were getting tense.
For their Quickfire, the chefs will have to create a breakfast amuse-bouche (which is a small one-bite sample) to celebrity Chef Rocco DiSpirito. The problem came when certain chefs created a sample that was more than one bite, and that was partially what put Daniel and Fabio on the bottom. The top three were Leah, Jamie and Stefan, with Leah taking home immunity and Rocco's newest book "Rocco Gets Real."
For their Elimination Challenge, the chefs discovered that they would be introducing themselves to the world in a 2.5-minute television segment. They would be judged on their presentation skills and ability to complete the dish in the allotted time. They were given $100 and 30 minutes to shop for ingredients. Fabio was concerned about his accent, but everyone was on edge because none of them were used to talking people through what they are cooking. However, the judges felt that Ariane, Jeff and Fabio did the best with their dishes and their presentation, and Melissa, Alex and Jamie were on the bottom. It was getting late, so the judges dismissed the chefs and told them they'd pick a winner the following day.
At 2 a.m., Tom walked into the loft and grabbed the top three. They were told they'll be going to the NBC studio to watch the women on the "Today Show" sample their dishes and choose a winner. Kathy Lee ended up spitting Jeff's dish out, but they generally liked Ariane and Fabio's dishes. Ariane took home the Elimination Challenge win and got a set of two dozen tools from Rocco along with a five minute segment on the "Today Show" to prepare her dish on live TV.
The bottom three got totally spanked at the judges table. Rocco felt Melissa's use of habenero pepper made her dish inedible, the white on Jamie's quail egg was still raw, and Alex chose crème brulè knowing it was a dish that would never be completed in the time allowed. Tom said that the point of the competition is to win, not necessarily stand out. Alex was unable to finish his dish - he picked a dish that could not have been completed in the time allotted, and the judges didn't even get a chance to try it. It was because of this they sent Alex back home to be with his fiance.
Next time, they are cooking in teams for Gale's bridal shower. Also Leah and Hosea's relationship blossoms. Um, can we get back to the food here? Thanks.
