Kate WinsletKate Winslet was so stunned when she landed her big break in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures, she had to be escorted from the delicatessen she was working in - in hysterics.

The actress admits she had no idea that she'd landed the lead role in the 1994 film - and the phone call confirming the part was a complete shock to her.

Winslet didn't even dare to dream she'd got the job after she realized she was just one of hundreds of hopeful teenagers up for the role.

She tells Parade magazine, "I was in the middle of making a sandwich and I had to leave work pretty much immediately. Somebody else had to finish making this poor guy's sandwich, because I was hysterical. Then I had to walk home, because I had forgotten to collect my wages before I left, and I had no bus fare."

She still has fond memories of the time she spent behind the deli counter: "I made sandwiches. I cut up cheese. I ground coffee. I loved it!"
