Doctors have started removing monitoring equipment from comatose Deftones star Chi Cheng's hospital room, convinced the bass player will recover from his November 3 car crash once he regains consciousness.

The rocker's mother Jeanne has been blogging about her son's condition online, and she's happy with his slow but sure progress.

She reveals Cheng, 38, showed a little response to tests last week, but he remains unconscious in a California hospital.

She writes, "Chi's condition remains the same - serious, but stable. He still lies in a coma, however his vitals (heart, lungs, and blood pressure) all exhibit very stable functions and doctors have begun removing much of the excess monitoring equipment. Chi remains strong in his fight to recover."
