Kanye West has gained an unusual mentor - U2 frontman Bono. Rapper West bonded with the Irish singer after supporting the rockers on tour in 2006.

They cemented their friendship later that year after the MTV Europe Music Awards, when West was left fuming after failing to win a single prize. But West credits his new friend with supporting him through that difficult time - when many others were attacking him for his behavior - and admits he has now become a close confidante of the One hit-maker.

He says, "Bono took me under his wing and he believed in me. When I made my protest over not getting an award at the MTV Awards a couple of years ago, and nobody wanted to hear anything from me afterwards, Bono and U2 stood by me."
