David BeckhamLONDON (AP) - A local businessman believes he can help a couple sell their modest east London home for over $1 million after proving that soccer star David Beckham once lived there.

Colin Evans said he told the owners of the three bedroom row house in the London district of Leytonstone that Beckham lived at the property until he was two years old.

He told The Associated Press he made the connection when he was researching a book on the area's famous residents. The owners, Samira and Sulman Ali, agreed to allow Evans to act as their agent to find a buyer for the house after he told them about its former residents.

Evans has listed the house for 850,000 pounds ($1.28 million) on the online classified Web Site gumtree.com, calling it a "celebrity hotspot." He told the Associated Press an Australian businessman who deals in Beckham memorabilia has offered 1 million pounds ($1.5million). Similar properties in Leytonstone — three-bedroom terrace houses built during the Victorian period — are fetching around 250,000 pounds ($375,000).

Beckham's spokesman told Britain's Press Association that Beckham lived in the house on Norman Road from his birth in 1975 until his family moved to London's Chingford area two years later.
