My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Nia Vardalos and her husband have adopted a five-year-old daughter. Vardalos and Ian Gomez welcomed the toddler into their home several months ago, reports E! Online.

And they are urging other couples to follow suit.

The 46-year-old actress' representative says of the child, whose name has not been released, "They are going public now to bring attention to National Adoption Month and the 500,000 children in foster care. Of these children, 129,000 are 'legally free' for adoption and waiting for a family."
