REMRockers R.E.M transformed the last date of their Brazilian tour into a celebration of Barack Obama's historic victory in the U.S. presidential election.

The group have made their support for the Democrat leader known throughout his bid for the White House, speaking against the current U.S. administration during their tour of South America.

And the Losing My Religion stars made Obama's victory the focus of their Sao Paulo gig on Tuesday - projecting images of the Illinois, Chicago senator above the stage.

Alongside the smiling snaps of the popular politician were the words "Obamatic for the People", as a nod to the band's 1992 hit album Automatic for the People.

Frontman Michael Stipe told the 6,000 revelers, "We're very happy that Barack Obama will be our next president."

Earlier this year Stipe threatened to quit the U.S. if Republican contender John McCain was sworn in as the country's new leader.
