Comedienne Whoopi Goldberg is in for a gender-bending new role - the actress has been cast to play a man on a new episode of the TV drama Life On Mars.

Goldberg will appear in the British TV remake as a soulful underground New York radio personality who goes by the name of Brother Love Butter. Her character gets involved in the search for a Puerto Rican man accused of murdering a young African-American girl in the cameo role.

The episode is set to air on Thursday.
