Michelle Williams has gone public with new boyfriend Spike Jonze for the first time following the death of ex-fiancée Heath Ledger.

The couple was photographed affectionately holding hands following the screening of their new film, Synecdoche, New York in Manhattan on Wednesday night. Despite months of rumors of a romance, it is the first time the couple has been photographed being intimate.

Williams - who has a daughter, Matilda, with late actor Ledger - met the director in 2006, when she auditioned for his film, Where the Wild Things Are.
