John McCain And Barack Obama Trade Jokes; Who's Funnier?
Last night was the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner. Since 1960, it has been an event in which presidential candidates give speeches and help the foundation sell tickets to raise money for Catholic charities (this year's draw? $3.9 million).
Recently, it has become a chance for the candidates to give humorous speeches like one would hear at a roast. Although it doesn't always turn out to be a positive move: George W. Bush made the (admittedly funny) joke "This is an impressive crowd. The haves and the have-mores. Some people call you the elite. I call you my base." It was used against him in the movie Fahrenheit 9/11 and in the 2004 Election.
