Actress Shannen Doherty is terrified of returning to the sea after a shark attack.

The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star went cage diving off the coast of Hawaii two years ago and "freaked out" when the sharks she hoped to see underwater appeared.

She tells Details magazine, "I couldn't breathe, I started having an anxiety attack, I couldn't stay out of their reach. They were slamming into the cage; they looked so frickin' mean! My leg slipped a little through the bars, and a shark swam up against me and rubbed off a layer of my skin."

Since the encounter, the once enthusiastic surfer has refused to set foot back in the ocean: "I'm just terrified now."
