GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico (AP) - Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee said Friday that boxing is his favorite way to release stress and stay in shape.
The 32-year-old Latin Grammy winner was spotted at a San Juan gym, where he says he spars daily with boxers including Ivan Calderon, junior flyweight champion of the World Boxing Organization.
"This is my secret hideout," he said of the Wilfredo Gomez gym. "I've been coming since I was 14 years old."
He said he trains with Jose Sanchez, who also coaches Calderon.
Daddy Yankee, whose real name is Ramon Ayala, said he was at the gym Friday to lend support to his friend, Juan Manuel Lopez, the WBO junior featherweight champion who is scheduled to fight Mexican Cesar Figueroa on Oct. 4.
"He has a devastating punch," the singer said of Lopez. "That is what has impressed everyone and what is being talked about in the streets."
