Former Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus has entered the same-sex marriage debate by marrying comedienne Wanda Sykes in an episode of sitcom The New Adventures Of Old Christine. In the season opener, which aired on Wednesday night, the actress agreed to wed her pal Barb (Sykes) after she learned she is in danger of being deported to the Bahamas.

The straight couple staged a gay wedding in the backyard of Louis-Dreyfus' TV home.

Same-sex marriages were made legal in California in May but a steering group is fighting to appeal the ruling. Californians are being asked to vote for or against gay marriage when they vote for president in November.
