Helen Mirren was disgusted when pictures of her in a bikini hit the headlines-- insisting she looks "awful" in a two-piece. The snaps of the 63-year-old on a beach in Italy in July caused a sensation, with the global press raving about her toned body.

The Queen star even landed third place in a poll of the world's sexiest midriffs, only losing out to younger stars Rihanna and Keira Knightley.

But Mirren insists the photographs were not truthful, because she actually looks terrible under her clothes.

She says, "I am beyond bikini-wearing age. I wouldn't normally wear one. The truth is, I don't really look that good. It was just a flattering picture. I look like a woman in her 60s. I've always looked awful in a bikini-- even when I was young."
