Daniel Radcliffe Not Hesitant To Do 'Equus' On Broadway

September 14th, 2008 5:30pm EDT  Post a comment

Daniel RadcliffeDaniel Radcliffe had no hesitation when he was offered the chance to make his Broadway debut in Equus-- insisting it would have been 'moronic' for him turn down the role. The Harry Potter star plays distressed teen Alan Strang in the controversial Peter Shaffer play, about a boy who has a pathological sexual fascination with horses.

And Radcliffe is determined for the show to be as big a hit with his U.S. fans as it was with his fellow Brits when Equus opened in London's West End last year.

He says, "For me, it seemed I would have to be really moronic not to take the part... The stage is much more a test of nerve (than film) and seeing what you are made of. It would be very easy to do simple stuff. It doesn't really interest me that much... Every actor has limits. It's sort of testing out where they are. Luckily, I haven't found them yet. I suppose the thing I've learned is that I think I am more capable than I thought I was... There are a lot of actors who think you can just go on stage and do it - you can't."

The play will open on September 25 and run until February 8.
