Alec BaldwinAlec Baldwin was so humiliated after an angry answer machine message to his 11-year-old daughter was leaked to the media, he contemplated suicide, according to new reports.

The actor talks about the depression he spiraled into after the world heard his "thoughtless little pig" comments, fired at daughter Ireland, in a new autobiography.

But he was to sink even lower when the Los Angeles County Superior Court commissioner suspended his visitation rights.

An insider who has read Baldwin's upcoming tome, "A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce," tells In Touch magazine, "He writes about how he was serious about suicide. He definitely put a lot of thought into the different ways he could accomplish it."

But the 30 Rock star sought treatment instead.

The source adds, "Alec writes in the book that a doctor told him he'd be no good to anyone-- especially Ireland-- if he destroyed himself."

Baldwin's book hits shelves at the end of the month.
