Hollywood superstar George Clooney has helped raise thousands of dollars to inject cash into U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama's race to the White House by hosting a Swiss fundraising gala.

The actor was reportedly the star attraction at the event on Tuesday at an exclusive venue in Geneva, Switzerland. Over 170 U.S. citizens paid $1,000 each to attend the lavish party in a bid to raise nearly $1 million for the Democrat's election campaign.

Clooney, a staunch Democrat, has spoken out before in support of Obama, saying, "I've been an Obama guy for a year-and-a-half and I'm very excited by his campaign."
