Samuel L. Jackson Fell Out Over Alternate Ending
The scripted final scene featured co-star Patrick Wilson's character shooting Jackson's cop - and the Pulp Fiction star thought his ending would be better.
He explains, "At one point we were talking about instead of me getting killed at the end of the movie; what if I didn't? My idea was, 'What if he (Wilson's character) puts the gun down and all that goes away and we come back two weeks later and these two guys are standing there watering their lawns staring at each other waiting on the next incident.'
"There are producers who are brave enough to do stuff like that because that's the way life is, and then there are producers who give you this bulls**t answer that the audience needs some kind of satisfaction that something happened to the bad guy. So when that came up there was some animosity amongst a few of us for a couple of days because I said, 'Let's shoot both endings and try them. At least if my ending doesn't work, you'll have it for the DVD!' But, hey, it's not my money and nobody wanted to spend the time shooting it."
