It might be the music that Rihanna is now discovering. Or, it may be the same music that inspired P. Diddy to get into the game and be where he is today. Whatever the case may be, old school music was all of that back in the day. Jams were light - hearted at best, about having a good time, bringing a good laugh, sharing a moral story, making a social commentary, or, just something to chill too. Going waaaay back, here are some goodies that are now old school classics.
1. Positive K - "I Got a Man"
Does persistence pay? Who knows? However, the interaction in Positive K's song "I Got a Man" is still hilariously relatable today...
2. Biz Markie - "Just a Friend"
There nothing more charming than someone's urgent plea for love, as Biz Markie does in this memorable performance in his "Just a Friend" video. The two second backstage waltz, candle lit room, and complete 18th century attire sets the right mood.
3. Kid 'N Play - "Funhouse"
Kid 'N Play's party may have been at the "Funhouse," but it's still a fun track even today.
4. Sir Mix A Lot - "Baby Got Back"
Sir Mix A Lot's shockingly sincere "Baby Got Back" is still apt to incur some sort of reaction.
5. Digital Underground - "The Humpty Dance"
Nearly two decades before Soulja Boy Tell'em's "Soulja Boy" dance dominated the charts, Digital Underground's "The Humpty Dance" crowded the dance floors. The added funny nose and hilarious rap has made this song memorable.
6. Salt 'N' Pepa - "Tramp"
With a clever play on words offering a female's point of view, men for once became the "tramp" in Salt 'N' Pepa's "Tramp."
7. Redhead Kingpin & The FBI - "Do The Right Thing"
Redhead Kingpin & The FBI did the right thing by putting out this message which still has a positive vibe.
8. The Fatboys - "Wipeout"
The Fat Boys were every pudgy girl's dream. This classic video even has a cameo by The Beach Boys!
9. RUN D.M.C. - "King Of Rock"
Could RUN D.M.C.'s ingenious raps have been the predecessor for today's "mash up" cds? Check out the Kings Of Rock as they do their Rap Rock.
10. Sugarhill Gang - "Rapper's Delight"
It can be said the fun really began with the release of the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." Betcha' bottom dollar that everyone in today's Hip Hip can sing this in their sleep. "Rapper's Delight" was the ABC's for today's Hip Hop.
What's your favorite old school classics?
