Veteran actor Morgan Freeman has reportedly been involved in a serious car accident in Mississippi.

The Dark Knight star was said to be traveling with an unnamed female passenger just north of the small town of Ruleville at around 11:30pm local time on Sunday when the crash occurred. No other vehicles were involved.

According to online reports, Freeman was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where he is currently receiving treatment. The extent of his injuries are unknown, but state troopers tell website TMZ.com that the actor was talking at the scene of the accident before he was taken to hospital. The condition of Freeman's passenger is also unknown.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the accident, although further details were unavailable as WENN went to press.
