Movie star Hugh Jackman thrilled comic book fans at Comic-Con in San Diego, California by turning out to thank them for his career.

The Aussie actor was a last minute addition to the convention when he showed up to introduce the first trailer footage from his X-Men spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

After receiving a standing ovation from X-Men fanatics, a beaming Jackman said he marked the date for Comic-Con in his diary so he could personally thank fans for their support.

He said, "Without these guys, there would be no Wolverine, and I would probably be in a gas station serving gas. These guys are the most loyal, hardcore, supportive fans out there, so there was no way I was going to miss it."

Jackman, who plays the hairy X-Men mutant, revealed the teaser footage he previewed had literally just come off the reel, explaining the much-anticipated new film had just been completed.
