It has been two and a half years since High School Musical first aired on Disney Channel. In that surprisingly short amount of time, the made-for-TV movie has spawned a sequel, a stage show, an ice show, video games, toys, clothes, and so much more.
Now we're only a few months away from the third movie (Oct. 3) in the franchise, and this one is going Hollywood. In a reversal of the Disney sequel trend, High School Musical 3: Senior Year will be the first film in the franchise to hit the big screen. With a budget of less than $15 million dollars the film will become profitable approximately 47 seconds after it is released. Here's what we know so far:
So what's the plot?
Disney is staying tight lipped, but one can assume it will involve Troy and Gabriella realizing they're going to be heading to different colleges and a big spring musical that fits nicely into the theme of the film. Who cares, though? The movie will have 10 new songs, amazing dance sequences and will make an insane amount of money, attracting tweens and some embarrassed yet excited 20-something year olds. Not excited yet? Check out the new teaser trailer:
Who's back?
From Basketball stud Troy Bolton to crème brulee baking Zeke, everyone is showing up in the big-screen adaptation. It was a rocky road getting to this point however, with stalled contract negotiations and a little hiccup involving Miss Vanessa Hudgens' inability to wear clothing while being photographed and the entire cast was not expected to return. Turns out the Wildcats got their heads in the game (and for quite a chunk of change). Expect appearances from Drama teacher Ms. Darbus and even Troy's barely a character mother Mrs. Bolton.

Senior Year? Does this mean no High School Musical 4: College Musical?
If you've seen "Lion King One and a Half" you know Disney is not going to let a cash cow like the HSM franchise be put to rest just because their cast members are in their 20s. Three young sophomores make their debut in the film, so expect them to carry the franchise well into the double digits. Who knows, maybe we'll see some of the former Wildcats in the future. Not Ashley Tisdale or Zac Efron though; they've made it clear it is time to move on. Anyone want to wager who folds first?

What can we expect to see in the film?
-Troy and Gabriella finding a way to stay together
-Chad and Taylor getting screen time as a couple
-Sharpay acting self-absorbed, in love with Troy, and then learning a lesson
-Ryan doing what he does best, being a sidekick
-More random Wildcats with expanded roles even though we don't quite remember why they'd be friends with Troy or Gabriella, or anyone for that matter
What we hope to see in the film
-Troy and Gabriella breaking up for good because anyone will tell you a High School romance with so much drama people break into song will never last
-Chad and Taylor actually getting a song together
-Sharpay meeting her match in a young and even more evil Drama Club member
-Ryan finally getting a love interest, even if for some strange reason they end up being a girl
-Mrs. Darbus breaking out into song. Don't believe us on this one? Check out this clip of actress Alyson Reed in the film version of A Chorus Line. Yep, that's Darbus!
How we want it to end?
Exactly how it began, with a pushy karaoke DJ forcing a young man and woman to sing together creating the start of something new.
