Cute Is What We Aim For Hit The Mark With 'Rotation'

July 2nd, 2008 7:30pm EDT
Cute Is What We Aim ForFueled By Ramen recording group Cute Is What We Aim For has made a spectacular chart debut with their second album, "Rotation." The Buffalo, New York-based combo's sophomore outing entered this week's Billboard 200 at #21, with sales exceeding 22,000 copies. In addition, "Rotation" debuts at #10 on the Top Digital Albums Chart and #9 on the Current Alternative Albums Chart. Cute Is What We Aim For are currently in the midst of a cross-country summer headline jaunt. The tour – which sees support from Ace Enders, Danger Radio, and labelmates Powerspace – continues through late-August (see attached itinerary).

Produced by John Feldmann (The Used, Story of the Year), "Rotation" finds Cute Is What We Aim For surpassing expectations with a collection of new songs marked by palpable urgency and a knack for exploration and invention. Tracks such as the first single, "Practice Makes Perfect" – recently featured in an episode of MTV's The Hills – prove the band's caustic lyrical wit and penchant for soaring choruses remain in full effect.

With its singing synths and delightfully new-wave sensibility, "Practice Makes Perfect" is shaping up as a surefire summer smash. The track's companion video is now in rotation at MTV2 – where it recently had an all-day "Unleashed" premiere – and mtvU. In addition, "Practice Makes Perfect" was the #1 most streamed video on MTV2.com last week.

"Rotation" has begun to reap critical acclaim, most notably in Alternative Press, which praised CIWWAF for "bring(ing) the hooks like Fall Out Boy with something left to prove." Artist Direct declared "Rotation" to be "entrancing, catchy and emotional all at once," noting that "the album finds the Buffalo quartet cultivating their poppy, alterna-punk sound into a sharper, more mature animal." Newsday hailed the album as "ambitious" and "stadium-ready," suggesting that "it shows what happens when you aim for something a little higher than cute."
