'Top Chef' Recap: Final Four

Top ChefFirst thing that needs to be pointed out is the fact that Lisa is even there in the first place. Richard pointed out how many of the viewers feel like it was only natural for Lisa, Stephanie and himself to be there, but that Lisa doesn't quite fit in. Maybe it's her hair?

Their Quickfire challenge involved cooking with plantains. Stephanie admitted initially that they were not her favorite thing to cook with, which is ironic given that she won her first Quickfire challenge of the entire season with her Tostones dish. Guest Chef judge, Wilo Benet, commented that he loved her balance of flavor and the size of the serving. Stephanie's advantage includes picking, out of former contestants from this season, who will be on each of the final four chef's team for the event they are catering for the Elimination challenge. Stephanie picked Dale for herself, Andrew for Lisa, Nikki for Antonia, and Spike for Richard.

The four were invited to a party in San Juan to enjoy local food and music. While many of them were enjoying the event, they all still had thoughts at the challenge ahead. This is the only episode of this show where it really feels like there is so much at stake for these chefs.

When it came down to getting ready for the Elimination challenge, the chefs were each given a pig to use parts from for the event, while their Sous Chef went shopping for the ingredients they need. The remaining chefs had to break down the pigs to get the parts they wanted to use. Dale made another stupid mistake of leaving the pork belly with a spice rub on it out all night. One of the reasons he is NOT a Top Chef, no? Stephanie was worried, but she knows that she is good when she has to think on the spot and can work at the last minute. Richard made an intriguing coffee bar-b-que sauce. Lisa was completely unoriginal by going with a Tostone, and Antonia made her own sausage which is quite an accomplishment.

At the cocktail party, everything seemed to go pretty flawlessly. The first lady of Puerto Rico was there, and they were all honored to be able to feed her at the event. The judges walked around to each station to ask how they did and to taste their dishes. When it came time for judgement, Richard and Stephanie were called out as the top two. Richard won the Elimination challenge, and along with it, a 2009 Carola. He was so surprised he was giggling! They sent Antonia and Lisa to the judges table. The issue with Lisa was there her puree was too sweet and overpowered the rest of the dish. Antonia's issue was that her beans weren't all the way cooked and the foods should've been separated onto different plates to distinguish them. Antonia is all about rustic cooking, but there was a lack of sophistication because of her choice to put it all on one plate. In the end, the judges decided to send Antonia home because she made mistakes that she shouldn't have. Richard and Stephanie were not happy, and it showed. Lisa was bothered by it. Boo. Hoo. The question remains…why is she still here?
