Actress Bridget Moynahan dreaded life as a single mother and found the birth of her son "frightening".

The formerCoyote Ugly star, 37, gave birth to John Edward Thomas Moynahan in Los Angeles in August last year. Moynahan found out she was pregnant just weeks after splitting with the world's greatest quarterback Tom Brady after a four year relationship. Weeks later, Brady went public with new love Gisele Bundchen. And Moynahan admits the prospect of becoming a single mother was tough.

She tells the July issue of Harper's Bazaar, "I'm not sure anyone - and I could be wrong in this - grows up thinking, I want to be a single mom. When you're suddenly pregnant and no one is standing by your side, even if you're in your 30s, it's a hard conversation. I'm a traditional girl, and I believe in marriage, and I just always thought that's the way I'd be doing this."

"For a moment, it was hard for me to accept that this was the way I was going to have a family. All of a sudden, you have this newborn you have no training for. It's frightening." However, Moynahan insists she wouldn't swap her maternal role for anything, she adds, "It's golden and it's tough and it was f**ked up. But now I have a child, and it's the best thing in the world."
