Uma ThurmanUma Thurman exaggerated the affect convicted stalker Jack Jordan had on her life, according to his lawyer. Jordan has been ordered to keep his distance from the Hollywood star for five years following his conviction for stalking and harassing her.

He was arrested after attempting to force his way into her movie set trailer. At the week-long trial at New York's Manhattan Supreme Court, Thurman and her parents testified, revealing how Jordan had bombarded them with notes and letters, and threatened to kill himself if her mother and father refused to pass on the messages.

But George Vomvolakis, defending Jordan, alleges, "Miss Thurman exaggerated tremendously the effect Mr. Jordan had on her life."

Jordan himself told the sentencing hearing he didn't realize his presence had distressed the actress. His statement to the court on Monday read, "I just want to apologize to Miss Thurman and her family. I have never stalked a woman before in my life. The slightest word from Ms. Thurman... (and) I would have left her alone."
