Wyclef JeanHip-hop star Wyclef Jean has launched a food relief program to help residents in his native country of Haiti.

The state is currently suffering a food shortage as farmers are failing to produce enough crops to feed the population - meaning that food prices are rising dramatically and many people are facing starvation.

Jean - who was born in the country before moving to the U.S. - has launched the Together for Haiti initiative, with his charity organization Yéle Haiti teaming up with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF).

The program will work with a number of non-government organizations and community groups to address the food crisis by repairing damaged soil and helping farmers to produce larger crops.
