Nicole Kidman and former The West Wing star Kristin Chenoweth will go head-to-head in two rival biopics of the same star - 1960s singer Dusty Springfield. Last week, scriptwriter Michael Cunningham revealed Kidman will play Springfield in his movie, about the late soul star's rise to fame in the 1960s and her battles with alcohol, drugs and mental health problems, before her death from breast cancer in 1999.

The movie, which reunites Cunningham with his The Hours star Kidman, will be made by movie studio Fox.

Meanwhile, rivals Universal are planning their own Springfield project, starring Chenoweth, which will be written and directed by Jessica Sharzer.
