John HiattVeteran rocker John Hiatt is to be honored by the Americana Music Association (AMA) with a lifetime achievement award for his songwriting.

The Grammy-nominated star, 55, will join previous recipients of the accolade including Willie Nelson, Rodney Crowell and Billy Joe Shaver, when he is presented with the award on September 18 at the Nashville, Tennessee event.

Jed Hilly, the AMA's executive director, says, "It's a privilege to honor John Hiatt. He is the essence of what the Americana songwriter award is all about - a true artist, a performer and songwriter whose work is steeped in integrity."
