Australian Authorities Furious Over K.D. Lang's Police Escort

Canadian singer K.D. Lang has infuriated Australian officials, after she was given an unauthorized police escort for a trip through Melbourne over the weekend.
The star, who is currently down under promoting her new album Watershed, was running late for a TV performance on Sunday because her flight had been delayed. But a helpful cop came to her rescue and gave her V.I.P. treatment, escorting her from a Melbourne airport to the television studio.
The policeman has now been reprimanded by senior officials - including state government leader John Brumby - for his "completely inappropriate" behavior. Brumby insists such escorts are only reserved for visiting heads of state and other dignitaries.
Assistant commissioner Ken Lay says, "I'm very disappointed with the decision to do this, it's not something that we condone and it's a very poor use of resources."
Lay claims lang was given the police escort in a deal brokered with the cop by an employee of the TV show she was appearing on.
