Shots Fired Outside Wash. Party For Book On Rapper Dr. Dre, 1 Killed And 1 Wounded

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) - Shots were fired outside a restaurant where a party had been held for the authors of a biography on rap artist and producer Dr. Dre, killing one man and wounding a second.
As many as 300 frantic people were in the restaurant parking lot when officers arrived early Sunday, but many potential witnesses would not answer police questions, Officer Mike Murphy said.
''When we first got there, there was panic - people were trying to care for the wounded, people were trying to get out of there, people were scared. It wasn't a healthy scene,'' Murphy said. ''It took about 20 minutes to get everything calmed down.''
Investigators did not know the motive for the violence in the Seattle suburb.
''We don't know if the victims were involved in a fight or if they were ambushed or what. We just don't know yet,'' Murphy said.
The party was held for Bruce Williams, Dr. Dre's close friend and aide, and Donnell Alexander, who has written for the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles CityBeat, both authors of ''Rollin' with Dre: The Unauthorized Account.'' They had appeared at a book signing on Saturday.
The party was ''very civil,'' and there was no crime history at the restaurant, Murphy said. He said it wasn't clear if the authors or any celebrity guests were present at the time of the shooting but said there was no connection between the writers or Dr. Dre and the shooting.
