MadonnaMadonna has hit out at the current generation of pampered pop and rock stars, insisting they are too "bourgeois" to follow in her footsteps. The singer claims she has achieved longevity because her career was forged out of the ashes of the punk movement of the 1970s.

And she criticizes the 'crotch-flashing' habits of the current batch of young performers - including her former protegee Britney Spears.

She tells Elle magazine, "I came on the heels of punk. There was lots of stuff going on, but there wasn't the coverage. This new Hollywood generation is not punk rock. They are more bourgeois. It's time to flash something new."
